Darwyn Metzger & Kevin Smith Zen Film-making Friend or Faux: Antarctica 48hr Film Making

I’m in highschool and want to persue a career in film making, but I need a new camera. What’s a good camera to use for film making that’s not very expensive? I know camera’s can be pricey but I’d like to try to save some money since I’m on a limited budget.

A good choice would be a mini DV camera, or a good digital videocamera to make editing easier.

The important thing in film making is having a good script, actors, directing, lighting, audio and music, good editing, etc.. The camera is one of the last things you should worry about if you’re just starting out.

That being said, you should look for a camera that has at least some manual controls–at the very least white balance and exposure, ideally manual focus, and also a microphone input is essential. Don’t forget to save some of your budget for a tripod and hopefully a boom mic and some lights, even cheap home depot shop lights.

I would recommend miniDV or HDV since they are the most compatible with editing software.
